GASEOUS NITROGEN (GAN), LIQUID NITROGEN (LIN)

APPLICATIONS

  • Purging pipelines, reactors, shipping vessels and blanketing storage tanks
  • Food freezing and hospital catering
  • In transit refrigeration
  • Milk chilling and dairy industry
  • Thermal treatment, metal fabrication and glass manufacturing to prevent oxidation
  • Cooling cement concrete before pouring to improve strength

STORAGE AND HANDLING

Suck back of water into the container must be prevented. Do not allow back feed into the container. Use only the properly specified equipment which is suitable for this product, its supply pressure and temperature. Contact gas supplier if in doubt. Keep away from ignition sources (including static discharges). Refer to supplier’s container handling instructions. Keep container below 50°C in a well ventilated place. Gaseous nitrogen is supplied through pipeline grids which extend to the port. Liquid nitrogen is supplied through tankers.


LIQUID ARGON (LAR)

PROPERTIES

Gas/vapor heavier than air. May accumulate in confined spaces, particularly at or below ground level.

 

APPLICATIONS

  • In steel industry and to mobilize molten steel by passing it through a furnace
  • Argon plasma burners to prevent harmful metal dust from spreading into the air
  • In welding as protective gas against oxidation
  • In the aluminum industry, precision electronics and the ceramic industry
  • To charge house lamps where its inertness helps in prolonging the life of filaments and fluorescent tubes

CRUDE KRYPTON

PROPERTIES

Gas/vapor heavier than air. May accumulate in confined spaces, particularly at or below ground level.

 

APPLICATIONS

 
  • Kr Applications
    • In lasers for eye surgery. In double/triple window glazing with high insulation properties
    • Also used in some types of photographic flashes, Krypton mixes with Argon as the fill gas of energy saving fluorescent lamps
  • Xe Applications
    • Xenon enhanced computerized topography and as magnetic resonance is used for measuring blood flows in the brain and respiratory tract
    • Xenon is used in field of anesthesia
    • High intensity lamps used in hospital operating theaters rely on Xenon
    • Also in flash lamps, laser application
    • Xenon can be used as direct treatment for non-breathing new born babies

GASEOUS HYDROGEN (GAH)

PROPERTIES

Burns with a colorless invisible flame.

 

APPLICATIONS

Mixed with nitrogen to absorb oxygen spots in glass production and in chemical synthesis of ammonia, hydrogen chloride and methanol.

 

STORAGE AND HANDLING

Extremely flammable. Use only in well ventilated areas. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Do not use near welding operations, flames or hot surfaces. It is sensitive to ignition by electrostatic discharge. Minimum ignition energy is about one tenth that of other gases such as methane and propane. Keep the container in a well ventilated place. Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition – No smoking. Cylinders should be stored in the vertical position and properly secured to avoid toppling.
Gaseous Hydrogen is supplied through pipeline.
